Pons is a token launchpad on Robinhood Chain. It plays a role similar to pump.fun on Solana: anyone can launch a token in minutes, and trading starts immediately on a bonding curve with no liquidity to set up. This article explains the moving parts. Settings such as fees and thresholds were checked at the time of writing and can change, so confirm them on the launchpad.

The bonding curve

A bonding curve is a formula that sets the token's price based on how much has been bought. There is no pool and no order book:

  • Buying raises the price along the curve.
  • Selling lowers it.
  • The price is always defined, so a first trade can happen with no market maker.

If you know pump.fun, the idea is the same. Read how pump.fun works for the general picture of bonding curves.

Launching a token

You choose a name, ticker and image, then pick a few settings:

  • Pair. Most launches pair with ETH. Some pair with other assets such as stablecoins or tokenized stocks.
  • Creator tax. You can set a percentage taken from each trade, up to a cap. Many launches use 0%.
  • Initial buy. You can buy some supply yourself at the start.

There is a small launch fee in ETH. Launches are frequent, with thousands in a day, so standing out takes work.

The first seconds

New launches often carry a snipe tax during the first few seconds, which is very high at the start and falls quickly. It exists to discourage bots from sniping the first blocks. If you are testing your own token, do not buy in the first seconds.

What trading costs

Each buy on the curve pays a small protocol fee plus the creator tax, if any. Gas is paid in ETH. Check the cost of a trade before you size a session. Crypto trading fees explained shows how these add up.

Graduation

When enough ETH has been put into a token's curve, it graduates: the curve closes and the token moves to a regular DEX pool. For ETH-paired launches the threshold was about 4.2 ETH at the time of writing.

After graduation:

  • Trading continues in a normal pool instead of the curve.
  • Tools built for the curve stop applying.
  • A bump or volume session on the curve ends cleanly. Mentat Booster returns the tokens and ETH to your master wallet.

Risks to know

Keeping a Pons token active

Early activity decides whether a curve token gets noticed. A bump bot keeps visible buys on the chart in the first hours, and a trending placement can add reach once the pair is eligible. See what is Robinhood Chain if you are new to the network.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to launch a token on Pons?

At the time of writing the launch fee was about 0.0005 ETH, plus any initial buy you choose to make. Fees can change, so check the launchpad.

What is the creator tax on Pons?

A creator can set a tax on trades of their token, up to a cap of 10% at the time of writing. A creator tax of 0% is common for tokens that want to look friendly to traders.

Can a bump bot trade a Pons token while it is on the curve?

Yes. Mentat Booster trades Pons curve tokens directly. After graduation the token moves to a different pool and the bot ends the session and returns your funds.
